Campus Ministry: Reaching Students, Changing the World

The month of March was truly a blessing in many areas of Youth Ministry.

First, there was the annual Week of Prayer and Global Youth Day activities which many of our young people were involved in a host of different initiatives that were spirit-filled, life-changing, and community-impacting experiences.

Second, I wish to highlight the abundant ACF Ministry offerings.

The ministry supported four Churches-on-Campus events when specific ACF clubs provided worship services on their individual public campus. These allowed us to make an impact and showcase the Adventist presence in these schools.

The first was held at Carleton University, Ignite ACF in Ottawa. Bro. Jason Miller was the invited guest who offered a stirring message that day. Well over 120 persons were in attendance.

Then, Lighthouse ACF at the University of Ottawa held its own on-campus event. It started with Friday evening worship night, in which many of the different praise teams led attendees in worship and all sang together in the open space of the university commons area. Curious passersby stopped and joined the singing and watched as we praised God. On Sabbath morning, Bro. Greg Lauder spoke for the group of 200 people attending. It was full house and an amazing experience!

What followed was the church-on-campus held at McMaster University in Hamilton, ON. Cornerstone ACF invited Pastor Anthony Kern from Hamilton Mountain SDA Church to be the keynote speaker. Approximately 35 students were in attendance, which included several students who were there for the first time.

Finally, the church-on-campus held at York University was a beautiful collaboration. York ACF and Mustard Seed ACF (which comprises the four downtown Toronto campuses) partnered in planning and delivering the worship service and other activities. Pastor Harim Ji from Immanuel SDA Church delivered a powerful Message in the Second Student Center convention hall, filled with approximately 80 persons in attendance. Students came from all across the Greater Toronto Area. York University, U of Toronto, George Brown College, Seneca College, Humber College and Toronto Metropolitan University were all present at this church-on-campus.

These were powerful moments of mission as ACF Ministry endeavoured to Reach the Campus and Change the World.

I pray that we continue to relive those impactful moments; that our lives will reflect the light of Christ to those around us. We pray that the ACF Ministry will create more space in which our collegiate youth will grow and be the people to change their world around them.

May we give God glory for all He’s accomplished through us!
