Holy Forever: The ACF Kadosh Experience

This year’s ACF Winter Empowerment Weekend at Muskoka Woods was a powerful and Spirit-led weekend, centred on the theme “Kadosh (Holy Forever).” Students from across Ontario gathered at Muskoka Woods to encounter God, grow in community, and be reminded of what it truly means to live set apart.

From the very first worship session, the presence of God was evident. Pastor Danielle Placide led our morning and evening worship gatherings, preaching a moving series rooted in the story of Daniel. She spoke about what it means to be set apart in a culture that constantly pressures us to conform. Drawing from Daniel’s unwavering faith and obedience, she challenged us to remain steadfast in our identity as God’s people. Pastor Danielle also shared her personal testimony, opening up about her own journey of faith and the ways God has called her to stand firm even when it was difficult. Her vulnerability and conviction deeply impacted many students, reminding us that holiness is not about perfection but about surrender and faithfulness to God.
Throughout the weekend, students participated in impactful workshops that spoke directly to real-life areas of growth and development. Alexandra Tesic led the mental health session, “Taking Control When Life Feels Out of Control,” equipping students with tools to navigate mental health challenges. Shaina Charles facilitated the social workshop, “Setting Boundaries for Better Relationships,” offering insight into building healthy, Christ-centred connections. Edwin Castro guided the financial workshop, “Budgeting for Today, Investing for Tomorrow,” providing practical wisdom on budgeting and investing.

Saturday night was one of the most memorable moments of the retreat. Our chaplain, Joseph Martin, and Pastor Hong led the Sanctuary Museum, an immersive walkthrough demonstration of the biblical sanctuary. As we moved through each section, we gained a deeper understanding of God’s redemptive plan and His desire to dwell with His people. The experience was both educational and spiritually profound, as it allowed students to immerse themselves in the sanctuary as well. Sunday afternoon brought a balance of joy and connection through various winter activities. Students participated in sledding, a winter hike, archery tag, Zumba, bracelet-making, a hip-hop dance class, board games, and a mocktail and mingle.
On the final night, we kicked things off with a lively “Red Flag, Green Flag” panel featuring students, sparking honest and engaging conversations about relationships and discernment. This was followed by a sermonette from Pastor Hong, who shared practical wisdom on navigating relationships as university students and challenged us to intentionally build connections that are firmly rooted in Christ.
The evening continued with a vibrant talent show that showcased the incredible gifts within ACF, filling the room with encouragement and loud cheers. We wrapped up the night with an energetic round of Family Feud and closed with a powerful praise and worship set. On Monday morning, we closed with one last worship session before exchanging “warm fuzzies,” which are heartfelt notes of encouragement written to one another.

As we boarded the buses home, it was clear that this retreat left a lasting mark. Special thanks to our ACF Ontario Student Association team—Chris Cardoza, Gege Tenerife, Kemunto Maranga, Alisha Sealy, Larnelle Gutu, Joseph Martin, Jessica Gamez, Maddy Henry, Pastor Hong, and Pastor Scott—for making this unforgettable weekend possible.
