Waterloo Region’s Youth Week of Prayer Experience
By: Lily Cruz
This year's Youth Week of Prayer & Global Youth Day brought together young people from different churches for a special week of prayer in the Waterloo region. It was truly a blessing, from the online prayer week and the Sabbath service, to the book distribution and social night, each moment revealed God's presence in unique ways.
I had the privilege of speaking publicly, something that challenged me deeply, since English is not my first language. Though I felt insecure, the encouragement I received from my friends meant everything. They supported me before, and afterward sent me messages that lifted my spirit. It showed me what a true community looks like: one that supports you and pushes you to keep growing.
The book distribution was an eye-opening experience. Coming from Brazil, I noticed that people here are more likely to decline, and while no one was rude, most were pretty distant.
It reminded me that this mission field requires extra sensitivity and intentionality when approaching people. I ask for your prayers for this community, as we seek better ways to connect with the people here in Waterloo.
The social night was a fun experience. Young people from different places, games that were inclusive, and I genuinely laughed and enjoyed the time. Those moments are important for building relationships and simply having a good night with the community we will share eternity with.
So I thank God for this week.
