East Central’s Global Youth Day 2026
Left-to-right, Ashley, Jessica, Simone, and Matthew lead outreach activities in a Belleville Park.
The morning for Global Youth Day in East Central began with excited chatter as over 100 youth from across the region came together in Belleville to greet those they had not seen in a while and to meet new faces. As everyone came, they received their Global Youth Day shirt and enjoyed a light breakfast as everyone came together. The morning truly kicked off with a devotional that reminded us of the fact the Holy Spirit is working with us as we share what Jesus has done for us.

In the morning, there were several different activities. We had one group go to a nursing home to minister to people who don’t often get out to see people. They were able to sing songs, ana chat with the residences, an opportunity for community.
Another group stayed back at our base to write messages in Christian Books that would be distributed to inmates. They also created the care packages that would be distributed in the afternoon. These kits included basic supplies as well as more heartfelt messages. While looking through these cards, it became apparent how talented our youth are.

After the morning’s activities, everyone came back together at your base to be treated to a delicious lunch that was graciously provided by the Porter family from Belleville church. Their Caribbean cuisine mouth-watering. After lunch, we had a training session led by Pastor Geddes to ensure our youth were properly equipped as we went out for the afternoon.
For the afternoon, we were split up into several groups. One group took care packages to be distributed to unhoused people. Several groups went out to connect with those who were out and about through offering cards, glow sticks, and/or prayer. One of these groups went to a nearby park, while the other went to a mall. We also had one group that delivered the books to the prison, which will be distributed to the inmates.
Following these activities, we came together for dinner and an AY service. We had the chance to reflect on how God had led us and share the moments where we were able to connect
with people. We also studied how we can overcome the barriers youth face in the church to become more active and have a larger impact. I would like to thank everyone who came out and made this Global Youth Day possible. We were able to show what Communion in Action looks like.
