On Sunday, September 14, the gymnasium of École Secondaire Catholique Samuel-Genest buzzed with energy as ten basketball teams gathered for a tournament that united Seventh-day Adventist youth from across Eastern Ontario, along with members of the wider community.

Organized by the youth leaders of the Ottawa Francophone Church, the tournament brought together teams from multiple congregations. From early morning, church members and supporters packed the stands, creating a vibrant and supportive atmosphere that carried through every game.
More than just a competition, the event focused on unity, fellowship, and outreach through sport. “This tournament showed that sports can bring people together, inspire, and sow the love of Christ,” said Pastor Germain Jean-Pierre, the church’s youth pastor.
The event also served as a meaningful point of re-connection for many young people. Several youth who had stepped away from regular church attendance returned—either to play, cheer for friends, or reconnect with their church family. Inclusivity was on full display, with the Club David Pathfinder team—which secured second place overall—welcoming a classmate from school to join their roster.

A highlight of the day was the civic support shown by Rideau-Vanier Ward 12 Councillor Stéphanie Plante, who volunteered as a referee, officiating games and encouraging the church's efforts in youth engagement and community building.
Reflecting on the event’s impact, Youth Leader Sophia Cyril-Frezin shared, “This was a wonderful event with extraordinary participation. It’s the beginning of something great for the region.” Co-organizer Patrick Alexandre echoed the sentiment, noting the tournament’s deeper value: “Despite challenges, we built strong bonds and shared our faith in a living and accessible way through sports.”
The tournament stands as a powerful example of how faith, fun, and fellowship can come together to create lasting impact—not just for those on the court, but for the entire community.
